What brings you here?

Everyday movements.
Unexpected discomfort.

Before treatment, tell us where you feel it, what brings it on, and what you want to get back to doing.

Reaching & lifting

  • Discomfort reaching overhead
  • Pain lifting or carrying
  • Difficulty getting dressed

Resting & sleeping

  • Aching when lying on your side
  • Tension around the shoulder blade
  • Discomfort after prolonged desk work

Stiffness & limited motion

  • Trouble reaching behind your back
  • A shoulder that feels restricted
  • Weakness or difficulty raising your arm

New weakness, persistent numbness, or pain after an injury deserves assessment before you begin treatment.

Start with understanding

Understand your shoulder.
Plan your care.

The shoulder works with the shoulder blade, neck, and upper back. For this reason, your evaluation considers nearby areas as well as the shoulder itself. It also helps us decide whether further medical assessment is needed.

Tell us what matters to you. Sleeping comfortably, returning to exercise, or reaching a kitchen shelf can each shape your goals.

  1. Listen to your story

First, we ask when the pain began and how it affects your daily activities and sleep. We also review injuries, prior treatment, and any tingling or weakness.

  2. Assess comfortable movement

Next, your provider checks shoulder motion and strength as appropriate. Depending on your symptoms, the assessment may also include your neck and nearby areas.

  3. Choose care & reassess

Together, we choose suitable care and adjust it to your comfort. As treatment progresses, your provider monitors your response. Imaging, physical therapy, or a specialist referral may also be appropriate.

More than one possible cause

Understand what may be contributing.

Similar symptoms can come from different problems. Therefore, a careful assessment helps guide the next step.

Because similar symptoms can have different causes, we do not diagnose a tendon tear or frozen shoulder from a symptom list alone.

Muscle tension & overuse

Repeated tasks and increased loads may leave the surrounding muscles sore or tense.

Tendon & rotator cuff concerns

Tendon irritation or injury can affect lifting and sleep. However, marked weakness or pain after an injury may need further evaluation.

Frozen shoulder & joint stiffness

Frozen shoulder involves pain and significant loss of motion. Alongside care for discomfort, movement-based rehabilitation is often important.

Neck-related symptoms

Some shoulder or arm symptoms can originate in the neck. If you also have tingling or numbness, tell your provider so those symptoms can be assessed.

Coordinated care

Support comfort.
Build toward better movement.

We recommend starting with acupuncture for shoulder pain. Your plan may also include myofascial release, chiropractic care, and movement guidance based on your assessment and goals.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is our recommended starting point for shoulder pain. Points and needle choices are tailored to your comfort and pain-management goals. For frozen shoulder, research suggests benefits for pain and some measures of movement. However, the evidence remains limited.

Chiropractic care

Depending on your assessment, care may include gentle mobilization or work with shoulder, shoulder blade, and neck movement. Before treatment, your provider explains the selected techniques.

Explore chiropractic care

Myofascial release

Targeted soft-tissue care may address muscle tension around the shoulder. For example, trigger point work or MRT can be integrated with acupuncture or chiropractic care. In addition, pressure is adjusted to your comfort.

Explore myofascial release

When appropriate, cupping may also be discussed. However, hands-on care does not replace rehabilitation or medical evaluation when those are needed.

Between visits

Small adjustments.
A more comfortable day.

Before changing your routine, ask your clinician which movements and activities suit your shoulder.

Keep movement gentle

Keep movement comfortable rather than forcing a stretch or holding the shoulder completely still. However, stop activities that worsen symptoms.

Adjust the load

Temporarily reduce painful overhead work or heavy lifting. Then, plan a gradual return based on your symptoms and assessment.

Support your arm

A cushion may help support your arm when resting. For example, try a supported position that avoids lying directly on the painful shoulder.

Choosing your care

Should I book acupuncture or chiropractic care?

At Blissful Wellness, we recommend starting with acupuncture for shoulder pain. After assessing your symptoms, your provider may suggest adding myofascial release or chiropractic care. Medical assessment or rehabilitation may also be recommended when appropriate.

How many visits will I need?

The number depends on the cause, duration, and severity of your symptoms, as well as your response to care. Rather than promise a fixed number of visits, we discuss a plan and review your progress.

Frozen shoulder & tendon concerns

Can you help with frozen shoulder?

We recommend an acupuncture evaluation for frozen shoulder. In particular, research suggests benefits for pain and some measures of movement, although the evidence is limited. When appropriate, your plan may also include myofascial release or coordination with physical therapy. Care is adjusted to your stage and comfort, so recovery varies. Read the frozen shoulder research below.

Can treatment repair a rotator cuff tear?

Acupuncture and myofascial release are not proven to repair a torn tendon. Instead, a suspected tear needs assessment to guide treatment. Rehabilitation or an orthopedic evaluation may be appropriate, with supportive care fitted to that plan.

Assessment & movement

Do I need an MRI before an appointment?

Not every shoulder complaint requires an MRI. Instead, your history and examination help determine whether imaging or a referral is appropriate. Also, bring any existing reports and relevant medical recommendations.

Should I exercise through shoulder pain?

Do not force painful stretches or strenuous movements. Instead, ask for guidance on comfortable motion, strengthening, and a gradual return to your activities.

Could my neck be contributing?

Yes, some shoulder and arm symptoms can be related to the neck. If you also have radiating pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness, mention these during your assessment.

Insurance & payment

Is shoulder pain care covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your plan, the service, and medical necessity. Therefore, request insurance verification before your visit. Standalone massage sessions are self-pay.
